Choose between big views from the top of the Wild Worcester Range, explore an old-growth forest in the Telephone Gap area of the Green Mountain National Forest, or paddle stunning Lake Tarleton in the White Mountain National Forest
Saturday, September 7th:
HIKE TO WHITE ROCK IN THE
WILD WORCESTER RANGE
WHAT: Join Standing Trees for a free guided hike to White Rock (sister peak of Mt Hunger)!
WHEN: Saturday Sept 7th at 10am (rain date Sept 8 at the same time).
MORE INFO: The Worcester Range is Montpelier's wild backyard. How we care for these important headwaters has direct implications for communities downstream in the North Branch watershed, and for Wrightsville Reservoir, as we have witnessed over and over again with recent flooding. On Saturday the 7th, we'll take a moderately-strenuous but rewarding 4.5-mile hike to the heart of the Wild Worcester Range and some of the best views in Vermont. Along the way we'll discuss what makes the Worcester Range unique, the details of the State of Vermont's proposed management plan for the area, and how we can permanently protect this special landscape. Meet in the parking lot of the Rumney Elementary School in Middlesex at 10am and we will carpool the final distance to the trailhead. Bring food, water, and sturdy shoes.
The hike is free but RSVPs are required using this sign-up form. The meet up location will be provided by email: https://forms.gle/Jb35U3zig1FKPHPU9
Saturday, September 21st:
HIKE TO OLD GROWTH IN THE GREEN MOUNTAIN NATIONAL FOREST
WHAT: Join Standing Trees for a free guided hike to mature and old-growth forests in the vicinity of the Telephone Gap logging project.
WHEN: Saturday Sept 21st at 10am (rain date Sept 22 at the same time).
MORE INFO: This is a moderately strenuous, 5-mile hike to a stunning and little-known area of the Green Mountain National Forest. Along the way we'll see beautiful mature forests targeted for logging in the Telephone Gap project, as well as a rare (and unprotected) old-growth forest on the edge of North Pond. You'll come away with a new appreciation for why this special landscape has become a flashpoint in the national debate over the future of mature and old-growth forests on federal public lands.
The hike is free but RSVPs are required using this sign-up form. The meet up location will be provided by email: https://forms.gle/SxB9dMDKYLjeRSzD9
